Many people seem to think that just by applying a label to something, it is true and factual. But the reality is, all you have done is apply a mental representation and your own bias. Take for example a recent discussion regarding the ‘real-world’ benefits of evolution to society.

Similar to genetic algorithms, engineers can use evolutionary principles to determine the optimal solutions to design problems that are so complex that no mental model within human capacity could ever account for all the subtlties involved. One example of this is the design of curved surfaces that need to perform complicated interactions with wind turbulence. The applications for evolutionary principles in engineering and computer science are legion.

Now, go research these principles. What you find is they [programs] are designed by humans. It is nothing more than automated trial and error with a twist. The programs utilize notions of natural selection, which is consistent with ID. And the whole process is much more consistent with ID than to assume something that occurs on it’s own. To be consistent with evolution, the solution to a problem would have to present itself with no programming at all. Just random interactions of 1’s and 0’s. That never happens….odd isn’t it?

So, programmers label their code as being ‘evolutionary programming.’ I could just as easily label this Intelligent Design Programming. It makes more sense to me to label it this way, since that is an acurate description of what takes place. It makes use of the concept of microevolution and intelligent design.

When you hear labels being applied to things, you want to remember that the labels are just that. A human came up with those labels and applied them.
